Biography

Probate Commissioner Edmund "Joe" Gorman, Jr., was appointed as Probate Commissioner for the Second Judicial District Court in September 2019.

Originally from Boise, Idaho, came to Nevada in 2009 to take advantage of the abundant outdoor and community activities that the "Biggest Little City" has to offer. Prior to his service to the Court, Commissioner Gorman was in the solo practice of law, serving clients in Washoe County and throughout northern Nevada in the areas of estate planning, probate, and business matters. Commissioner Gorman also served as Chief Judge of the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribal Court, and a member of the Northern Nevada Disciplinary Board for the State Bar of Nevada. He is a past president of the State Bar of Nevada’s Solo and Small Practice Section, and was named by Nevada Legal Services as its 2015 "Pro Bono Attorney of the Year."

In the wider community, Commissioner Gorman has served on the board of trustees for the Reno Host Lions Club Charity Foundation, and on the board of directors of the Reno Jazz Orchestra, both 501(c)(3) charitable organizations. Commissioner Gorman is a graduate of Tulane University (B.A., Philosophy), the University of New Mexico (M.A., Education), and Stanford Law School (J.D.). In his spare time, Commissioner Gorman enjoys skiing, hiking, hunting waterfowl, the arts, and spending time with his family outdoors in the Sierra and in the enchanting open spaces of northern Nevada.
