We are the public law library for Washoe County. As a public library, everyone is welcome to use any and all of the library's legal resources. Our staff is dedicated to helping you find and access the law. We invite you to visit or call the law library for further assistance.
The mission of the Washoe County Law Library is to enhance access to justice by (1) providing legal information, education, resources, tools, and materials, in print and digital formats, to those engaged with the justice system, and (2) partnering with the courts, bar associations, legal clinics, civic organizations, and government entities to help ensure the legal needs of the community are addressed.
The Law Library enhances access to justice by providing legal information through both print and digital resources. Our collection of materials covers a wide variety of legal topics and includes Westlaw, Gale Legal Forms, and Hein Online. Law Library cards are free to the public and many of our items circulate. Our helpful staff is available to explain Court policies and procedures. Additionally, we assist patrons in finding Court-approved packets and forms for their family law cases. The Law Library prides itself on the help we give to both the public and the legal community. We are located in the Historic Courthouse at 75 Court Street.
Through the Lawyer in the Library program, volunteer attorneys meet with members of the public via Zoom to provide free legal assistance. Tuesday night is for family law questions while Wednesday night is for general law. The first and third Wednesday of every month also include probate law. Each year, the Law Library celebrates Pro Bono Week and Law Day with free special events to assist citizens of Washoe County with their legal needs.
The Law Library has three computers providing access to Westlaw. We have four computers with internet access, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat. There are three Zoom computers for attending Lawyer in the Library and court hearings. There are two terminals available for searching the court record through Contexte. Patrons can print from all computers except those used for accessing Contexte. Wireless printing is also available.
Staff can notarize Court-approved packets and forms for no additional fee.
For calendar year 2025, the Law Library reported the following statistics:

The Law Library does not validate for parking. After 5:00 p.m. and on weekends, parking is permitted in the Washoe County parking lot across from the Courthouse at 75 Court Street. The County lot is not available for public parking Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and your vehicle may be towed.
Parking near the court complex can be challenging. There are metered spots on the streets near the court complex. Unmetered parking is located on the streets several blocks west of the court complex. You may also park in the Parking Gallery, located on the corner of First and Sierra Streets. The Court does not provide parking validation unless you are a juror. Oversized vehicles (6'8" and over) and motorcycles cannot park in the Parking Gallery.
** Please note: Arlington Street is closed for bridge repair. The Parking Gallery can be accessed from Sierra Street or West Street only. **
