Biography

On March 20, 2018, Governor Brian Sandoval appointed Dixie Grossman to the Family Division of the Second Judicial District Court, Department 2. Having devoted her entire professional career to families in Washoe County, Judge Grossman is profoundly grateful for the opportunity to serve the public as the Department Two judge.

Judge Grossman came to Reno in 2001 after graduating from the University of Montana School of Law in Missoula, Montana. She began her legal career as a law clerk to three different Family Division judges in the Second Judicial District Court: Judge Deborah Schumacher, Judge Charles McGee, and Judge Frances Doherty. In 2005, Judge Grossman transitioned to private practice where she spent eight years committed to the practice of family law first with the law offices of Fahrendorf, Viloria, Oliphant & Oster LLP and later with the law offices of Silverman, Decaria &. Kattelman Chtd. In June 2013, Judge Grossman was appointed as a Court Master in the Second Judicial District Court, Family Division, a position she held for approximately five years until her appointment to the judicial seat in Department Two.

In addition to serving the public professionally, Judge Grossman has also volunteered her time to those who need her services. Before becoming a judge, she volunteered numerous hours to individuals seeking legal assistance through the Lawyer in the Library Program (2008-2013), provided pro bono and reduced rate services to clients in need, served on the Nevada Family Law Executive Council where she contributed to the Amicus Curiae Brief for State Bar of Nevada, Family Law Section in Rivero v. Rivero, 125 Nev. 410 (2009), and taught various continuing legal education programs As a judge, she continues her community work volunteering in our local schools including civic engagement programs such as the 'We the People,' promoting the judicial system and enhancing family law. She also spends time teaching and contributing to continuing legal educational programs specifically addressing family law, procedural justice, and best practices.

Judge Grossman is a member of the State Bar of Nevada, Washoe County Bar Association, Bruce R. Thompson Inns of Court, Northern Nevada Women Lawyers, National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and serves as the judicial liaison to the State Bar of Nevada Family Law Executive Council. She was previously a member of the Steering Committee for the Juvenile Justice Reform and State Courts Initiative.

During her free time, Judge Grossman enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, baking, and art.
