The Second Judicial District Court Specialty Courts Program created a Young Offender Court for treatment of young offenders, aged 18 years through 27 years. The focus of the Young Offender Court is treatment for participants with substance use and co-occurring disorders coupled with programming to provide life skills tools and resources for long-term success. The Specialty Courts team will address treatment needs. The team will also build individualized plans for participants to reduce association with delinquent peers, increase healthy relationships, facilitate emotional maturity necessary to cope with frustrations and challenging family situations, increase education and employability, and rehabilitate to reduce future interaction with the criminal justice system.
Accessible Services and Support
The Young Offender Court values a holistic approach to help a defendant pursue and stop the cycle of substance use and criminal behavior. Case management for a defendant is coordinated by a team consisting of the judge, defense counsel and prosecutor, treatment providers, court personnel, parole and probation officers, and drug testing staff. The Court partners with local providers specializing in certain areas of expertise, such as, substance use counseling, case management, drug testing, and vocational and academic programs.
