Welcome to the Law Library of the Second Judicial District Court

Scales We are the public law library for Washoe County. As a public library, everyone is welcome to use any and all of the library's legal resources. Our staff is dedicated to helping you find and access the law. We invite you to visit or call the law library for further assistance.

About the Law Library

The Law Library began in 1915 as the Washoe County Law Library. At that time, Washoe County purchased 2,400 books from the estate of Judge William Massey. The Law Library was located on the second floor of the Courthouse. In 1924, Dorothy Cowles Jepson became its first librarian.

Computerization came to the Law Library in the late 1970's. In 1999, the Law Library moved to the first floor of the Courthouse as a new, modern facility. In 2012, the Law Library and the Family Court's Self-Help Center merged into one unit. Through these many years and these many changes, the Law Library has dedicated itself to providing the best access to legal information and the law for the people of Washoe County.
