The Honorable Barry L. Breslow was appointed to the Second Judicial District Court by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval in April 2017. As the presiding judge in Department Eight, he hears both civil and criminal matters of general jurisdiction. In addition to his duties in Department Eight, Judge Breslow serves the Court as a member of the following committees: Court Automated Enhancement Project, Court Statistics, Civil Bench/Bar, and Continuity of Operations Plan.

Judge Breslow is a proud 30-year resident of Nevada. He is married with two children, both of whom graduated from University of Nevada Reno. When not working, Judge Breslow enjoys reading, hiking, the arts, University of Nevada athletics, and playing the piano.

Judge Breslow is a graduate of Rutgers University and Ohio State University College of Law, where he emphasized the study of Dispute Resolution. While in law school, Judge Breslow was a staff member and later an Editor of The Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution.

Prior to Bench
After law school, Judge Breslow served as Law Clerk to United States District Court Judge Howard D. McKibben in Reno, Nevada. Thereafter he joined the law firm of Robison, Belaustegui, Sharp & Low in Reno, Nevada.

In nearly three decades of practice in Nevada, Judge Breslow litigated in all of the municipal, state and federal courts, and successfully appeared before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He achieved the highest possible rating of AV from Martindale-Hubble for competence and professional ethics.

Pursuant to the Nevada Supreme Court-annexed arbitration program, Judge Breslow has been appointed arbitrator over 100 times in Washoe and Clark Counties. He has been a presenter at the Nevada Supreme Court's arbitrator certification class and has lectured on civil trial practice for the National Business Institute.

Professional and Community Activities
For several years, Judge Breslow provided pro bono legal services to the underserved and has been recognized by the Volunteer Lawyers of Washoe County. At the request of the federal bench, Judge Breslow successfully represented a Nevada State Prison inmate in a freedom of religion appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, published at 86 F.3d 932 (1996).

Judge Breslow has also sat as a pro tem judge in Reno Municipal Court; was a nine-year member of the State Bar of Nevada Disciplinary panel; has helped form and was Vice President of the non profit Sierra Nevada Community Aquatics; and became the Chairman of Nevada's Commission on Common Interest Communities. In recent years, he has also chaired the annual community WinterFest event, raising funds and food donations for the Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada foodbank.
