Judge Cynthia Lu currently presides in Department 5. Judge Lu oversees civil family court cases including dissolution of marriage, paternity, custody, adoptions and civil commitments. Judge Lu was honored to be elected to the bench in 2014. Previously, Judge Lu served as a Family Division Court Master in the Second Judicial District.
Judge Lu has spoken and trained nationally and in Nevada on issues affecting children and families in the court system, including Specialty Courts. She has been honored to receive recognition for her work in a variety of venues.
Prior to joining the bench, Judge Lu was a law clerk to the Hon. Scott Jordan, one of the founding judges of the Family Court. Judge Lu also served as a Chief Deputy Public Defender in the Washoe County Public Defender's Office advocating for parents and children in Family Court. Judge Lu also served in the inaugural office of the Washoe County Alternate Public Defender's Office advocating for clients in Specialty Courts, criminal cases and appeals.
Outside of court, Judge Lu enjoys spending time with her family in Reno, Nevada, and has volunteered for several community organizations as well as serving on several nonprofit boards.
